Where in the Europe
..would you live as a bloke on their own?

I live in Holland at the moment, getting divorced. I don't want to stay here tbh. The weather , people , food , cost of living all suck

Was gonna go back to the UK bit can live and work anywhere in Europe. (Eu).

Not travelled the continent much so I'm a bit in the dark where would be a good place.

Seems to be a healthy amount of travel/ overseas experience here.

Any ideas ?

Re: Where in the Europe
I like living on the Mediterranean, good weather, food and drink.
What do you like doing? Whatever you want to do, there will be a place that has it all and good weather if you look.
Language is the other thing. It helps a lot if you can talk and meet people where you go. Do you want to learn a language or want a kind of "expat" English speaking community? That could narrow it down, but loads of brits abroad, especially in Spain.

Re: Where in the Europe
You definitely need to decide what it is you like. Sun? City? Ex pats ( immigrants)? Locals? Food? Outdoors?

For me its all about the local area you live. The people, the places, the weather and also the transport links to travel to other places.
Places I like and would live full time: Lisbon, Turin, Marseille, Barcelona, Seville. Italians and French can be twats at times but generally fine. I like the Portuguese and Spanish.

Re: Where in the Europe
As said it really does depend on what you are after, and what type of weather also. I like Eastern Europe, but you have freezing winters. Scando too expensive.

If I was gonna throw a few out there I would go with Barcelona or Madrid, possibly Lisbon or Rome.

Always remember that no place is perfect and ticks every box.

By the way, congrats on the divorce.

Re: Where in the Europe
Ok I should be clearer .

I can work from anywhere in the eu , that's not an issue.

Happy to learn a language , but I accept I will never be 'a local' in terms of how good I'll be. So somewhere that's a bit accepting of that.

Prefer the better weather, but fine to not be about that if the people are great and it's good cost of living.

If that makes sense.

Basically I live in the Netherlands now and it doesn't tick any of those boxes for me.
Weather is crap. Expensive, crap food, arrogant people.
Uk is better
Somewhere that has a few of those better is a start

Cheers.

Re: Where in the Europe
I like southern Spain... either Malaga or Alicante area. (prefer Alicante personally)
Good climate, cheap booze, cheap local produce, lots of fresh veg, nightlife's ok too.
Expat community if that's your thing.
Cheap flights back to the UK.

France is lovely. But don’t believe the bollocks. They really don’t like the English.

Re: Where in the Europe
Does it absolutely have to be Europe?

How about somewhere further afield like one of the not-so-small Indonesian islands or the Philippines? How about Fiji?

Almost everybody on The Philippines speaks (or at least understands) English, which is useful.

Re: Where in the Europe
Funnily enough I looked at Luton . I do not know why.

Is Spain better than Portugal? Never been to Spain .

Been to Portugal a few times . I speak basic Portuguese, they speak good English , find them a bit moody tho

Suriname? Dutch Antilles (what is left of them)? Think they're still technically EU.

Decent weather all year round, cheap, and friendly locals. My choice when I get out of this shithole country when I finally retire.
